John Powell Update

Dear friends and supporters:

Greetings from La Paz, Bolivia! We hope and trust that you are well. The last time that we wrote you was to send our New Year’s Greetings letter. As we had stated in it, Starr and I were at my father’s in Massachusetts over Christmas and New Year’s. We left to fly back to Bolivia on Tuesday, January 18 and arrived here early in the morning the next day.

It always takes a few days to readjust to the high altitude in La Paz. We got back into the routine and started classes of our Ministry Training Center again on Tuesday, February 8. There is a morning class for one-and-a-half to two hours and an evening class of about the same length of time to cover the same material. Depending on their own personal schedules, the students come to one or the other class. Two new couples and several individuals have joined us this year. I (John) taught a series on the Principle of Spiritual Authority in February that lasted three weeks. One of the many things we noted in our study was that when the Lord Jesus was resurrected, as He stated in Matthew 28:18, He now has all authority in heaven and on earth! He sent forth His first disciples with authority and power “over all demons, and to cure diseases” (Luke 9:1). The same is true for believers today! The Lord has delegated to us such authority. We are excited to share with you that Starr has been accepted to be one of the speakers at a conference in Bogota, Colombia on April 16 and 17. This is a conference for women that is being hosted by a Colombian pastor who is a member of the MorningStar Fellowship of Ministries (of which I am also a member), headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina . Most of you know that Starr and I spent 10 years in Colombia as missionaries. It looks like we both will be going, and needless to say we are excited to get back to Colombia after many years.

We are also making plans to go and minister in a church in Santa Cruz, Bolivia in a couple of weeks.

We were asked to include PRAYER REQUESTS in our newsletters–which we are very happy to do. So here are some matters for which we would appreciate your prayers:

  1. Starr, that the Lord would clearly direct her as she prepares for ministering in Bogota, Colombia at the Women’s Conference there a month from now. Also, that she would be anointed in a special way as she ministers so that her words would be from the heart of the Lord for the women present.
  2. both of us while we are in Colombia that the Lord would order our steps so that we would be able to go wherever He would have us go and share His word. We are planning to stay about a week in the country to be able to see old friends, etc. from our time as missionaries there years ago.
  3. clarity and clear direction for Starr and me as we minister and teach God’s word here in Bolivia.
  4. that the Lord would continue to draw people who have the same vision and a strong commitment to Him to the work He has given us to do.
  5. that the Lord would give us clear direction in the publishing of a book I have written. The book is entitled, The Silver Cup: Benjamin and the Last Day Ministry. Starr and I need to know if it is to be printed first in Spanish or in English, and how it is to be published.
  6. upwards of some 5,000 people who lost their homes here on one of the mountainsides where La Paz is located due to a
major landslide that occurred two and a half weeks ago and still shows signs of possibly continuing. These displaced people are presently living in tents in some 24 camps. They will need to relocate to other places where they can “start over” with new homes. The response to reach out and help them has been very good, but there are so many needs to be met still. By the kindness of the Lord, in the midst of this tragedy–possibly the greatest in the history of La Paz–not one person lost his or her life! Of course, there are efforts going on to evangelize these people, as well as provide for their many physical needs.

Starr and I will be coming back for a visit to the U.S. in mid-May and will be traveling up the East Coast in our old car. We would love to see as many of you as we can during our time in the States (until August 3). We would like to hear from any of you by email if we
could come by and share further what we are doing in Bolivia.

We want to thank each of you for your interest in what we are doing and for your prayers. We are very grateful for the financial contributions we are receiving from some of you as well. Thank you for each and every one of them.

Dear Jorge:

Happy New Year! May the Lord continue to lead and bless you in your ministry!

We believe that God has called us to help identify and raise up individuals in each of the five ministries mentioned in Ephesians 4:11: “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers…” (New King James Version). Because of several strong prophetic words over my wife and me, she and I also believe that we are called to help lead a move of God/revival that is to be birthed in Bolivia and then go out to the nations. To this end we have a Bible and Ministry Training School in La Paz, Bolivia that is seeking to place a firm foundation in people’s lives that will help them find their calling and ministry. We are also starting to travel within that country to minister and help lay foundations for the revival in churches that are embracing this vision. Recently a prophet from the U.S. (a man I had never met previously) has been visiting Bolivia again after many years and has spoken about the spirit of Elijah coming upon God’s people in Bolivia and elsewhere in this end-time. This was a confirmation of what I have been carrying in my heart for many years. So my wife and I are starting to teach and seek to impart a vision for such an Elijah ministry to come forth.

I want to share some recent happenings with our ministry in Bolivia. In the middle of last September I went to Santa Cruz, the economic hub of Bolivia, to attend some of the meetings that Brother John Harris, the prophet I mentioned above, was holding in a church there. I translated for him from English into Spanish on one of the nights. After his visit later to La Paz, a group of pastors, leaders, and intercessors involved in the crusade with him there in that city started meeting once a week to pray for the coming revival in the country. My wife Starr and I are involved in this prayer group. She and I went to Sucre (the second capital city of the country!) at the end of October to minister in a couple of churches there over a weekend. I spoke from the Bible about the Elijah ministry that God is going to raise up. Near the end of last November, my wife went with a number of others from the weekly prayer group to Tarija, another major city of Bolivia, to hold teaching sessions and a city-wide evening crusade. I stayed behind in La Paz to speak at the anniversary service of a church pastored by one of our Bolivian sons in the faith. Starr and I came back to the U.S. on December 20 to be with my aging father, my brothers and sister-in-law over the holidays. We will be flying back to La Paz on the night of January 18 and arrive there early in the morning of the 19th.

Thank you very, very much for your interest and support!!!

Love and many blessings,

The Key of David Ministries, International
